Newspaper headline reads: “N.Y. mom kills self and three other children.” After many traumatizing disputes with her children’s deadbeat father, she drove the van with her four children into the waters of Hudson River. One of the children, 10 years of age was able to climb out of the vehicle and swim to to shore. She left a dying message on Facebook, just 30 minutes before the tragedy that said: “I’m sorry everyone forgive me please for what I’m gonna do…This is it!!!” As I read the story, Joh. 10:10 came to mind, when Jesus said: “The thief does not come, except to steal, and to kill and to destroy.” I cannot even begin to imagine the anguish and despair this woman must have felt to where she’d be driven to kill herself and her children. I’ve been saved for over 30 years now. Like everyone else I’ve had my share of trouble and pain in this world of ours, but they always drove me to my Heavenly Father who could help, wanted to help and always did help! If you’re saved and know the Lord, thank Him a thousand times today, for we have a sure, everpresent Help who not only helps us in times of trouble, but also keeps us out of it as we walk in accordance to His Divine directions. The world when going through turbulent times has no one to turn to for true deliverance, and so it turns to alcohol, drugs, infidelity and so forth. But we have the One Who said: “Call Me in the day of your trouble, and I will deliver you and you shall glorify Me.”(Ps.50:15), And we must offer that same hope to everyone we meet, as we share our faith with them. I cannot help but wonder, could the lives of this precious lady and her children have been spared, if all those who know the Lord and have once met her, had properly shared the Good News with her. If they had, chances are she might have been in church today singing “Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine”, and her children in Sunday School not Hudson River! Think about this please the next time you meet a lonely, lost soul!
